Required shipping documents can vary based on the final location, method of shipping, and the items. To assist international buyers purchasing industrial machinery from South Korea, a list of commonly required documents has been compiled below.
Commercial Invoice
A commercial invoice acts as a customs declaration when shipping internationally and serves as proof of sale for the buyer and seller. A commercial invoice includes information such as shipper and receiver details, a description of goods, a commodity code to classify products (e.g., metal rolling mill rolls have an HS commodity code of 84553090), origin country, and value of goods. When purchasing from US Korea Hotlink, our consortium member making the sale will prepare the commercial invoice of the sale to be processed by the buyer’s logistics team.
Packing List
A packing list itemizes the contents of each package and provides information such as the weight and measurements of the product. Packing lists are used by freight forwarders to determine transport costs by weight, and by customs agents when reviewing package contents.
Packing lists are especially significant for machinery and equipment as components may be shipped separately, with assembly performed at the final installation site. Packing lists can ensure buyers have a complete set of machine parts and can begin assembly after confirmation that all components are at the site.
Certificate of Origin
A certificate of origin attests that goods in a shipment were produced or processed in the country of origin, and are required for customs clearance.
