What does IP68 mean?
IP ratings, or International Protection rating, is an international standard that classifies the level of protection from foreign exposure such as dust and water.
The first digit refers to the level of protection from foreign bodies:
0 - No protection
1 - Protection from solid objects greater than 50mm square
2 - Protection against small objects larger than 12mm square
3 - Protection from entry by tools, wires etc, with a diameter of 2.5 mm or more
4 - Protection against solid bodies larger than 1mm
5 - Protected against dust that may interfere with the equipment.
6 - Totally dust tight.
The second digit refers to the level of protection from water and moisture:
0 - No protection.
1 - Protection against condensation
2 - Protection against water droplets when the equipment is tilted 15? from vertical
3 - Protected against water spray up to 60? from vertical
4 - Protected against water spray or spashes from all directions.
5 - Protection against low pressure water jets from all directions
6 - Protection against strong water jets and heavy seas
7 - Protected against immersion up to 1m
8 - Protected against immersion greater than 1m
